Hematospermia infertility

Patient's question:

Doctor, hello. We have been married for three years. In these three years, we have always wanted to have a child. However, in the past two years, we were not ready, and I had an abortion. Now we are prepared, but I can't get pregnant no matter what. I don't know the reason, but I noticed that my husband's semen has blood streaks these days. This should be hematospermia.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, the main cause of hematospermia is seminal vesiculitis. This condition is often secondary to inflammation of adjacent organs such as the rectum, bladder, urethra, and prostate, or it may be caused by gonococcal infection. The seminal vesicle wall becomes edematous, congested, and develops new blood vessels, making the wall thin. During sexual intercourse, the contraction of the seminal vesicle wall muscles leads to blood vessel rupture and bleeding, resulting in post-coital pain. Severe prostatitis can also cause hematospermia, but the severity is lighter, the duration is shorter, and it occurs in intermittent episodes. Additionally, stones, tuberculosis, and injuries in the seminal vesicles and prostate can also cause hematospermia. Varicocele of the spermatic cord can also lead to hematospermia. Wishing you good health.
