Can epididymitis and urinary tract infections be treated with Amoxicillin capsules?

Patient's question:

I was diagnosed with epididymitis and a urinary tract infection a while ago. The doctor prescribed Chuang Wang anti-inflammatory tablets and Cefteram pivoxil capsules. I have finished the course of treatment and would like to take another one. However, I couldn't find Cefteram pivoxil capsules at the pharmacy. Could Amoxicillin capsules be a substitute for it? I see that both are used for urinary tract infections, so are they roughly the same in effect? Can Amoxicillin capsules be taken with Chuang Wang anti-inflammatory tablets?

Doctor's answer:

Epididymitis is primarily caused by retrograde infection of the epididymis through the vas deferens from prostatitis or seminal vesiculitis, with hematogenous infection being rare. It is classified into acute epididymitis and chronic epididymitis. The scrotum often exhibits pain, swelling, and a sense of heaviness, with pain potentially radiating to the lower abdomen and the ipsilateral thigh. The affected epididymis becomes enlarged with mild tenderness, clearly demarcated from the testis, and the scrotal skin may appear edematous and red. Accompanying symptoms include thickening of the spermatic cord and vas deferens, hardening of the prostate with fibrous nodules, and other chronic prostatitis manifestations. Bilateral chronic epididymitis can lead to infertility. It is recommended that you visit the department of reproductive infections at a hospital to identify the cause and receive targeted treatment!
