New Literature Version (Illustrated Treasure Edition)

Publish Date: 2002-12-01
Features: This series of books is written in various specialized volumes, including Song editions, Yuan editions, Ming editions, Qing printed editions, ancient books of ethnic minorities, shop-printed editions, family-printed editions, movable-type printed editions, illustrated editions, and new literature editions, etc., striving to reflect the new trends and standards of version research in our country. Of course, some may worry that this format might lack uniformity and lead to repetition. The editors believe there is no need to be concerned. The format is generally unified, but it is neither possible nor necessary to be as neatly structured as a textbook. The editors recall that when they first entered the field of ancient book versions, they read various books such as Zhang Zhidong's Catalogue of Books Answered, Ye Dehui's Chu Lin Qing Hua, Sun Yuxiu's A Study of the Origins of Chinese Woodblock Printing, Ye Changchi's Poems Recording Book Collecting, as well as bibliographies and prefaces by various authors. It was truly a wide array of books, and there was no need to adhere to a single format or framework. Yet, they managed to master the art of version studies. With ten or so volumes in this series, some repetition in content is not a problem. For example, some may classify Mao Jin's Jigu Ge as a family-printed edition, while others may consider it a shop-printed edition. Each author writes from their own perspective, and insights differ. A bit of diversity—like a hundred flowers in bloom—is far more interesting than a single flower.
