Eleven-String Pavilion Guitar Scores

Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features: The Eleven-String Pavilion Guqin Spectrum, compiled and published by Liu E (styled Tieyun), a novelist from the late Qing Dynasty, from the tunes played by the folk musician Zhang Rui. The repertoire is not extensive, but each piece is highly valuable. Among the ancient tunes, all are passed down from renowned masters: the four pieces—Tian Lai, Wu Ling Chun, Zhen Gu Tian, and Xiao Pu An Zhu—were original compositions by Zhang [whose tonal patterns are exceptionally brilliant, sometimes like the rustling of wind, or compared to the roar of dragons]. The rhythms draw from the ancient, while the ingenious application is uniquely original, suitable for both the old and the modern, and equally elegant and refined—truly rare in the late Qing Dynasty. The Guangling Scroll Spectrum was modified by Zhang from an old manuscript obtained through a divine copy from Wang Anhou. When compiling, Liu E combined the old and new spectra, providing a comparative analysis.
