Features: This book is an aesthetic work written by Ni Zhihui, a former teacher of the Theory Department at the Beijing Dance Academy, after many years of studying in Japan. It primarily conducts a comprehensive examination and research on Chinese classical art from the perspectives of aesthetics and art studies. It offers unique interpretations of aesthetic phenomena such as "Heaven," "Dragon," "Ghosts and Gods," and "Artistic Conception" in the concept of "Qi Yun." Additionally, it conducts comparative studies on important concepts in the history of Chinese and Japanese art, arriving at scientifically sound conclusions. All arguments are based on abundant materials, demonstrating the author's academic expertise. The book is accompanied by 60 ancient artworks from China and abroad, which are placed at the end of the "Moments" section. Chinese readers are requested to refer to them simultaneously. The book incorporates academic achievements from Japan's aesthetics and art circles, with many translations in the Chinese section derived from the Japanese aesthetics community. This includes articles co-authored with Japanese scholars, but the author also references relevant discussions and terminology from Chinese aesthetics and art studies. All of this indicates that during his time in Japan, the author was diligent in learning and thinking, achieving fruitful academic results.
The author examines and focuses on Chinese classical art from two layers: the theory of the realm of beauty and the theory of art types, and investigates the history of Chinese art and artistic works from the perspectives of spirit and style. There are few publications by the Japanese aesthetics community published in China, and it is indeed a meritorious and righteous act for a scholar who has spent over a decade in Japan to return and contribute his years of research to the Chinese aesthetics and art community. We are delighted to have presented this book to the Chinese aesthetics and art studies community.
