Features: Suzhou is a historic cultural city. In 1986, on the occasion of its 2,500th anniversary since its founding, the Suzhou Local Gazetteer Compilation Committee Office collaborated with the publisher to reissue nine local historical documents of Suzhou, including Wudi Ji (Record of Wu Land), Wujun Tujing Xujì (Continuation of the Illustrated Gazetteer of Wujun), Wujun Zhi (Gazetteer of Wujun), and Wumen Biyin (Hidden Records of Wumen). These reissues were highly valued by the academic community and welcomed by the public, thereby cultivating and nurturing a group of workers and enthusiasts dedicated to Suzhou's local history and culture. Since the 21st century, the demand for history and culture has grown even stronger, and people have shown increasing care for Suzhou's humanistic resources. Therefore, the Suzhou Local Gazetteer Compilation Committee Office and the publisher once again collaborated to compile and publish the Old Suzhou series of picture albums, followed by the Suzhou Local History and Culture Reader series. The content of the series will include: selected local gazetteer materials, historical figure archives, records of prominent families, and an edited collection of Suzhou historical documents. Additionally, unique perspectives and formats will be employed to explore Suzhou's profound history and reflect on the issues in cultural heritage protection, aiming to provide insights and inspiration for contemporary Suzhou residents in cultural development. This book spans from the distant past to the present, telling the stories of Suzhou's noble families and distinguished households. In a society often misunderstood, they rose and fell with the nation, shared prosperity and decline with the nation, and continued to thrive, generation after generation, writing moving chapters for Chinese history and Suzhou civilization.
