Is the prostatic cyst serious?

Patient's question:

What is a prostatic cyst? Is it serious if you get a prostatic cyst? Does it affect your life?

Doctor's answer:

Prostate cysts are similar to kidney cysts. If the cyst grows very large and compresses the kidney tissue, causing the kidney function to gradually decline, measures must be taken. The cyst is usually filled with liquid. Sometimes, under the guidance of ultrasound, the fluid may be drained, or surgery may be performed to remove it. If the prostate cyst is very small, it generally does not cause significant issues. However, if it grows larger, measures must still be taken. Cysts usually grow very slowly and do not require special treatment. There is no specific remedy for them. If the cyst shrinks, follow-up checks every one or two years are recommended to monitor the size of the lump and any changes. This is sufficient. Generally, if it does not affect prostate function, no special treatment is needed.
