Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features:
1. This book is compiled based on historical data of administrative division changes since the founding of the People's Republic of China, with reference to the annual "Administrative Division Abbreviated Catalogue." The establishment and abolition of administrative divisions are based on the official approval times by the Central Government and the State Council. For some counties and cities that were decided to be established but were actually not established or not established on time, corrections are made based on the actual situation.
2. The writing method of this book: Taking the current administrative divisions as the scope, it provides a detailed description of the changes in administrative divisions of provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government. Provinces, prefecture-level cities, and municipalities directly under the Central Government that have been abolished are explained after each province, autonomous region, and municipality directly under the Central Government. Regions, cities, or other administrative units directly under provincial jurisdiction that have been abolished are attached to the relevant city or region.
3. To help readers understand the general outline of administrative division changes since the founding of the country, the overall trend of national provincial and regional changes is explained before the provincial descriptions. When describing each province, the overall trend of changes in provincial cities, regions, and county-level administrative units directly under provincial jurisdiction is first explained, followed by the distribution and regional descriptions.
4. This book only records changes in administrative divisions at or above the county level, including adjustments in the boundaries of provinces, cities, and counties. In addition to explaining the jurisdiction of central municipalities directly under the Central Government and provincial cities, it does not mention the towns and townships under the jurisdiction of cities and counties (districts).
5. If the name of a county is different from the name of its seat of government, it is noted in parentheses. When the seat of government changes, the time and location of the relocation are explained.
6. The data in this book is up to the end of December 2002.
7. Maps and a geographical name index are appended at the end of the book.
