Foreign companies withdrawing investment from China

Features: This book is one of the outcomes of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Key Project "Strategies of Multinational Corporations in China and Countermeasures of Chinese Enterprises" (Project Approval No.: 70132010) led by the authors. As early as the mid-1990s, during their overseas research visits, the authors recognized the importance of studying the withdrawal of multinational corporations from China and conducted some preliminary research. Around 2001, I selected "Research on the Withdrawal of Multinational Corporations from China" as the topic for my PhD student Jiang Dunfu's dissertation. In February 2002, the authors and Jiang Dunfu published a literature review titled "Contemporary Theories of Multinational Corporate Withdrawal and Their New Developments" in the Journal of Sichuan University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition), which served as the foundation for subsequent research. In June 2003, Jiang Dunfu's PhD dissertation titled "Research on the Withdrawal of Multinational Corporations from China" passed its defense and he was awarded his PhD degree. Building on Jiang Dunfu's doctoral dissertation, this book has been enriched and updated in terms of theoretical research, the structure of chapters has been adjusted, and substantial supplementary empirical research and case studies have been added. The authors utilized the materials collected during their visit to Japan to write Chapter 8 of this book. Dr. Zeng Guojun assisted the authors in organizing, supplementing, and conducting case research for the book's materials. Through investigations of enterprises such as the in Hefei, Anhui, the Houcheng Power Co., Ltd. in Dongmei, Guangdong, and the Peugeot Automobile Company in Guangzhou, the authors wrote six case studies. Combined with the existing case study of the Sanyo-Kelon in Shunde from Jiang Dunfu's doctoral dissertation, these formed Chapters 6 and 7 of this book. This expanded the research from the initial 80,000 words of the PhD dissertation to the current approximately 260,000 words.
