Features: The core feature and strength of this discipline lie in "bilingual and bicultural." Yanbian University is located in Northeast China, adjacent to North Korea and Japan, which gives this discipline the advantage of bilingual and bicultural comparative research between Korean (South Korean) language and culture and either Chinese language and culture or Japanese language and culture. Most members of this discipline are not only proficient in Korean and Chinese but also relatively proficient in Japanese or English, forming a research advantage in bilingual and bicultural or multilingual and multicultural fields. Therefore, this discipline possesses a unique research advantage in the field of Korean–South Korean language and literature studies both domestically and internationally, spanning languages, countries, and ideologies. At the same time, the discipline of Korean–South Korean language and literature has been gaining prominence internationally, especially with the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and between China and South Korea. The rapid development of economic and cultural exchanges between China and East Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan, and North Korea has led to the establishment of Korean language and literature disciplines in universities across the country. Internationally, the discipline of Korean language and literature also holds a relatively important position. In China, whether it promotes cultural development and the internationalization of higher education or contributes to economic construction, the discipline of Korean language and literature plays a very important role.
