Features: Social constructionist psychology is a significant academic trend active in the field of Western psychology. It serves as the meta-theoretical foundation of postmodern psychology. Social constructionist psychology primarily has three forms: (1) postmodern social constructionism, also known as radical social constructionism. Represented mainly by the American social psychologist Gergen, its key feature is the complete denial of the real nature of psychological phenomena, viewing consciousness and psychology as mere social constructions; (2) realist social constructionism, represented mainly by the British psychologist Hare, characterized by discourse psychology and a post-structuralist inclination; (3) rhetorical-reactive social constructionism, represented mainly by Schott, emphasizing the rhetorical and reactive aspects of language. This book conducts a multi-dimensional, comprehensive study of the self-theory as the core theory of postmodern social constructionist psychology, as well as its overall logical framework, the research methods it advocates, and current debates in academia.
