What are the Five Elements? The Five Elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. They originated from primal religious worship and evolved from the religious motherbody into the realm of philosophical thought, developing into the Five Elements philosophy. The Five Elements philosophy posits that the world is composed of five fundamental substances: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The development and changes of all things and phenomena in nature and human society are the result of the continuous movement and interaction of these five substances with different properties. The Five Elements are mutually productive and mutually restraining, promoting and limiting each other, thus creating a dynamic and diverse universe. The Five Elements philosophy constructs a cosmic creation model, affirming the materiality and dynamism of the world, yet it also holds that the movement of the material world is a cyclical and repetitive process. The Five Elements philosophy's understanding of the universe, as a worldview and methodology, holds an important position in traditional philosophy.
