Can you still have children after the ligation of varicocele?

Patient's question:

Varicocele, can I still have children after undergoing high ligation of the internal spermatic vein?

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is a common disease in men. The incidence rate in the general population is approximately 15%, while in infertile individuals, it is about 35%. Animal experiments and clinical studies have shown that varicocele can cause progressive testicular dysfunction. 75% to 85% of varicocele patients suffer from secondary infertility. Varicocelectomy is currently the most common surgical treatment for male infertility. High ligation of the internal spermatic vein is a classic surgical procedure for treating varicocele. Its theoretical basis is that varicocele exists due to blood reflux, and high ligation can effectively prevent this reflux. Typically, it is performed through two approaches: the inguinal route or the retroperitoneal route.
