Accelerator Physics = Accelerator Physics (Second Edition) (English Photocopy Edition)

Author: Li [USA]
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-11-01
Features: This textbook is based on the author's lecture notes from teaching "Accelerator Physics" to graduate students at Indiana University and the related lecture drafts for two courses taught at the American Physical Society's Particle Accelerator School. Since its first edition was published in 1999, it has been widely used as a teaching material. The second edition, in addition to necessary revisions of the original book, includes a new fifth chapter on Free Electron Lasers (FEL) and beam-beam interactions.
Accelerator Physics is a highly interdisciplinary course that covers the physical principles and technological applications of charged particles moving in specially designed electromagnetic fields to form beams for specific purposes. The first chapter of this book introduces the basic principles and development history of various types of accelerators; the second chapter discusses the transverse motion of cyclotrons and their physical treatment methods; the third chapter presents the principles and design methods of synchrotron radiation accelerators and linear accelerators; and the fourth chapter covers the principles of synchrotron radiation phenomena and the design principles of low-emittance electron storage rings. The last part of the book explores the prospects for developing fourth-generation light sources. At the end of each section, the book is specifically designed with exercises. To make problem-solving easier, the author intentionally breaks down the problems into many smaller parts. The solutions and final results of these problems not only help readers gain a deeper understanding of the basic principles but also allow them to directly enter related design fields.
