Doctor's answer:

Hello: The normal volume of semen released by a healthy man during ejaculation is generally 2-6 milliliters, and anything less than 1 milliliter is referred to as oligospermia. Oligospermia can lead to infertility. Semen is composed of sperm and seminal fluid, with sperm accounting for only a very small portion of it, so a reduction in semen volume is primarily due to a decrease in seminal fluid. The main causes of oligospermia include: hypofunction of the testes or endocrine dysfunction, which results in underdeveloped seminal vesicles and prostate glands responsible for secreting seminal fluid, thus reducing its production. When the seminal vesicles and prostate glands are diseased, their secretion function is impaired, leading to insufficient seminal fluid production. Urethral stricture or urethral diverticula can prevent all of the semen from being expelled through the urethra, thereby reducing the volume of semen released. When oligospermia occurs, it is important to identify the underlying cause and provide symptomatic treatment. Additionally, in some cases, reduced semen volume is not due to a medical condition but rather results from overly frequent sexual activity, where the body does not have enough time to produce sufficient seminal fluid. In such situations, reducing the frequency of sexual activity will typically restore normal levels.
