Features: This book is based on the "Teaching Syllabus for the Basic Stage of English Majors in Higher Education" issued by the Ministry of Education of China. Through the analysis, summarization, and conclusion of the past ten years' TEM-4 (Test for English Majors-Band 4), combined with our over a decade of teaching experience in the basic stage of English majors, this book has been compiled. The main content and features of the book are as follows:
Listening Comprehension: The materials selected are relatively recent, focusing on comprehension, summarization, and cultural background questions to test students' listening skills.
Comprehensive Cloze: This is an item that assesses comprehensive abilities and is often considered a difficult point by many students, leaving them clueless. In the explanations of this book, we have made it a priority, guiding students to dispel confusion and identify the path to solving problems by analyzing context, syntax, word meaning differentiation, and collocations.
Grammar and Vocabulary: The grammar section comprehensively covers the knowledge points required by the syllabus, with detailed and in-depth analysis and summaries in the explanations, combining both breadth and depth to help students fill gaps, correct mistakes, and refine their knowledge structure. The vocabulary section assesses the foundational vocabulary students should master, starting with collocations and word differentiation, and compiling a large number of commonly used words and phrases.
Reading Comprehension: The selections in this section are diverse and ( means "close to the actual test," but since it's a Chinese phrase, I'll keep it as is for now). We aim to help students understand that the main purpose of reading is to grasp information, and they don't need to recognize all unfamiliar words to understand a passage. Therefore, in the explanations, we minimize language annotations as much as possible, focusing instead on the text structure and paragraphs, with the key to solving problems lying in topic sentences and clue words. This approach guides students to improve their logical thinking skills and quickly and accurately capture key information.
Writing: Each set of questions includes model essays for reference.
