Features: The writing characteristics of this series of teaching materials are as follows:
1. Broad, novel, interesting, and practical content: Comprehensive English textbooks 1–4 are rich and diverse in content, with each topic's material being novel, vivid, and practical. Each textbook has two reading passages, A and B. In addition, to stimulate students' interest in learning and to help them smoothly transition from the limited language materials in the junior high school stage to the larger reading volume required in the vocational and technical education stage, each unit of "Comprehensive English" adds a "READFORFUN" short passage. Furthermore, each unit of each book also includes a proverb or saying at the end. The selection or creation of materials for "Practical Communicative English Listening and Speaking" adheres to the principles of strengthening communication, emphasizing practicality, and sparking interest while making learning enjoyable.
2. Lively and appropriate language difficulty: Strict requirements for language selection and writing are maintained throughout: The material strives for diverse language styles, simple yet vivid vocabulary (with a word count controlled between 5% and 8%), and fluent syntax. The difficulty level of the passages is clear: "Comprehensive English" follows the principle of gradually increasing length, difficulty, and the sense of written language: , the first and second books emphasize lively language and a strong oral sense; the third and fourth books emphasize the vivid flexibility and modernity of English language within the basic norms. The language used to explain grammar is concise and clear; writing and translation exercises are of moderate difficulty.
3. Comprehensive training, highlighting practicality: The two main parts of this series of teaching materials—Comprehensive English and Communicative English Listening and Speaking—are both separate and integrated. The separation lies in focusing on different language skills training, especially strengthening the development of English listening and speaking skills based on comprehensive reading and writing. The integration lies in that these two parts are written around the same topic under unified writing principles. While implementing the coordinated training of comprehensive abilities, the emphasis is on cultivating students' listening and speaking skills. Authentic, vivid, and catchy oral materials and organic exercises are used to develop students' sense of language and interest in speaking. Additionally, in the arrangement of vocabulary and grammar learning and practice in each unit, the principles of diverse forms, moderate difficulty, and easy-to-learn practicality are adhered to. Here, the principle of practicality includes two basic points: , cultivating students' basic language skills to meet the needs of social work; second, referring to the current relevant examination content, aligning the exercise types and levels with the exams.
4. Simple format, reasonable and appropriate content arrangement: Adhering to the principle of writing for learning and teaching convenience, this series of teaching materials, in addition to the efforts made in content and language mentioned above, also emphasizes clarity in format. Both parts use the currently popular modules, and each teaching reference book provides more detailed references and accurate answers. The four volumes of "Comprehensive English" in this series are used for four semesters. "Daily Communicative Listening and Speaking" consists of 38 units. Since its topics are the same as those in "Comprehensive English," it can be used synchronously for each unit or selectively increased or decreased in listening and speaking content training according to the arrangement of listening and speaking hours in different semesters. The principle of combining and separating in writing is precisely to meet the flexible needs of teaching. Teachers can handle it according to teaching needs.
