Features: The writing philosophy of this series aims to be theoretical, systematic, practical, and forward-looking. It strives for theoretical depth, hoping that this series not only meets the teaching needs of related disciplines such as social security, labor economics, and human resources in higher education but also provides important references for peers engaged in social security theoretical research and practitioners. The second is systematicity—the entire series has an intrinsic scientific framework that reflects the close relationships among various fields of social security, and each book pursues content systematicity, fully reflecting domestic and international research findings. The third is practicality—this series seeks to provide feasible ideas and methods for further improving the social security system based on summarizing the experience of China's social security system reform. The fourth is forward-looking—by introducing and analyzing the experiences and lessons of other countries in social security, the policy recommendations proposed in this series are designed to be forward-looking. To facilitate student learning, this series breaks the traditional textbook writing model, highlighting learning objectives or key points at the beginning of each chapter and providing chapter summaries, key terms, and review questions at the end. This book comprehensively analyzes the issue of pension insurance, from theory to institutions, from history to the present, and from domestic to international perspectives, and proposes corresponding policy recommendations for the reform of China's pension insurance system. Chapter 1 introduces the basic concepts, categories, and principles of pension insurance, covering some fundamental issues related to it, outlining the overall picture of pension insurance problems, and aiming to help readers better understand the origins and evolution of pension insurance issues to grasp the entire book. Chapter 2 introduces and analyzes the development process of pension insurance theories, particularly the analysis of pension insurance issues in the field of economics. Although the theoretical analysis in this chapter has a certain level of difficulty, it helps readers gain a deeper understanding and research of pension insurance issues. Chapter 3 introduces and analyzes the development process of pension insurance systems in industrialized countries through a wealth of data, pointing out the current problems. Subsequently, Chapters 4, 5, and 6 of this book introduce three parts of the pension insurance system—public annuities, occupational annuities and personal accounts, and personal savings-based pension insurance, respectively. Public annuity management primarily discusses the role of the government as the pillar; occupational annuities mainly introduce the financial operations in the second pillar; and personal savings-based pension insurance mainly introduces commercial pension insurance. Based on the above analysis, Chapter 7 briefly introduces and analyzes the development and reform process of China's pension insurance system over the past 50 years, providing a detailed analysis of the progress and existing problems of pension insurance system reform since the reform and opening-up. To help readers gain a deeper understanding of the mathematical principles of pension insurance, we have included the actuarial aspects of pension insurance. Although readers with a weak mathematical foundation may encounter difficulties when reading this chapter, a preliminary understanding of actuarial thinking will help them better grasp pension insurance issues. The final chapter of this book is on pension insurance legislation. The implementation of the pension insurance system truly relies on legislation, and China's path in pension insurance legislation is still long, and the tasks remain arduous.
