Features: The National College English Test Band 8 (CET-8) represents the highest level of English proficiency in China and requires test-takers to possess strong skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. The new edition of the "Quick Pass" series retains the original framework, including five specialized practice books (English-Chinese translation, Chinese-English translation, English writing, listening, reading, and error correction) and one comprehensive simulation practice book. The listening book and the comprehensive book include audio materials. "Quick Pass" is primarily designed for English majors in their third and fourth years of college. However, it is also highly beneficial for a broad readership with intermediate to advanced English proficiency, especially for senior non-English majors in higher education institutions who have passed the CET-6 exam and young scholars who have entered the workforce after graduation, as it helps them further improve their English skills. This series is also suitable for TOEFL, GRE, and GMAT test-takers for self-study and improvement. This book is part of the "Quick Pass" series, a supplementary guide for the English Band 8 exam. This textbook is an introductory course on Chinese-English translation, primarily aimed at senior English majors in higher education institutions. It is also suitable for general readers with a certain foundation in English who wish to gain preliminary Chinese-English translation skills through more formal training and lay a foundation for further improvement. The direct objective of this textbook is to meet the Chinese-English translation requirements of the English Band 8 exam. This textbook attempts to embody the following characteristics: 1. Emphasizing key principles, primarily introducing some strategic basic principles and their rationale in Chinese-English translation; 2. Highlighting discourse, with two approaches: (1) In explanations, it emphasizes the importance of solving local problems within the context of the overall discourse; (2) All practice materials are short essays, and the example sentences used for explanations are mostly taken from these essays, minimizing the use of isolated sentences out of context. 3. The number of words in each Chinese original is indicated to facilitate readers in practicing translation speed. The focus of timed and untimed practice methods is slightly different: the former emphasizes both quality and speed improvement, while the latter focuses on meticulous refinement and quality enhancement. These two methods can also be combined, i.e., practicing first under a time limit and then revising. 4. Each practice exercise is explained comprehensively, covering both the difficulties of the exercise itself and the key points of related chapters.
