Features: Through the hard work and struggles of several generations of theater artists, Chinese theater has transformed from an imported Western art form into a modern national drama of China. This book is one of the required reading series for the new curriculum standards of Chinese language, recommended by the Ministry of Education's "General High School Chinese Curriculum Standards." It selects eight of the most representative Chinese dramas of the 20th century, including two one-act plays and six multi-act plays. It includes works such as Ding Xilin's Oppression, Tian Han's The Night of Catching a Tiger, Cao Yu's Thunderstorm (Act 4), and Lao She's Teahouse (Act 1), broadly reflecting the development process of Chinese theater from simplicity to complexity, from immaturity to maturity, as well as its unique ideological and artistic style. Selected Chinese Drama of the 20th Century has chosen eight of the most representative plays, hoping that students can gain a general understanding of Chinese theater without spending too much time. These eight plays include two one-act plays and six multi-act plays. Although the number is small, they broadly reflect the development process of Chinese theater from simplicity to complexity, from immaturity to maturity, as well as its unique ideological and artistic style. Playwriting saw significant development in the 1920s. Amateur theater activities, primarily led by students and employees in major cities across the country, greatly stimulated the creation of one-act plays, especially comedies, including such well-repeated plays as Oppression and The Night of Catching a Tiger. From the mid-1930s onwards, theater again moved towards professionalization, with large theater performances becoming the mainstream, the audience base expanding dramatically, multi-act play creation flourishing, and stage art making substantial progress. Chinese theater finally entered a mature and fruitful era.
