Features: College Chinese is a quality-oriented education course offered to students from various disciplines, including humanities (excluding Chinese Language and Literature majors), science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, finance and economics, law, foreign languages, arts, and education. The teaching of College Chinese primarily aims to enhance students' appreciation, understanding, and expression skills in Chinese language and literature through the reading of ancient and modern literary works, thereby improving their cultural literacy and nurturing their humanistic spirit. This book selects 138 ancient and modern literary works, divided into six units: Ancient Poetry, Ancient Prose, Modern Poetry, Modern Prose, Ancient and Modern Fiction, and Appendix (Standardization Knowledge of Chinese Language and Literature). Each unit includes an "Overview" and a "Reading List," and each work comes with a brief "Introduction." The accompanying learning CD-ROM is a condensed version of the second online multimedia teaching courseware for the College Chinese course at our university, containing 41 computer software packages. Each package features a homepage, teaching requirements, author's life (or introduction to a specific work), text analysis, work commentary, and thought exercises (with reference answers). Among them, 30 works (16 ancient poems, 9 ancient prose, and 5 modern poems) include recitations by teachers Chen Chun and Cao Xue. For all ancient prose works, the text analysis section provides sentence-by-sentence annotations and translations. The development of the online multimedia teaching courseware for our College Chinese course began in 2002. The first version, completed in 2003, won the First Prize in Higher Education Shanghai Teaching Achievement Award in 2005 and was recommended for the national teaching achievement award. The second version of the courseware has undergone significant improvements and enhancements compared to the first. It not only strengthens the audio-visual effects in terms of layout and page design but also adopts a multi-layered design for teaching content, allowing students to click layer by layer for in-depth exploration to meet their diverse learning needs, while also being convenient for teachers to select and use during lectures. This book can serve as a textbook for College Chinese courses in higher education institutions and can also be used by general readers to broaden their literary knowledge and improve their humanistic literacy. For institutions using this book, if a question bank CD-ROM is needed to accompany the textbook (containing 50 sets of test papers with random questions and reference answers), it can be provided.
