Features: Principles of Civil Law, a work by several young and middle-aged scholars from the Civil Law Teaching and Research Office of China University of Political Science and Law, showcases their sharp thinking and courage to articulate China's underdeveloped civil law with a new civil law mindset. Civil law is a theoretically profound branch of law with a long history and detailed legislation, deep theoretical roots, and extensive literature. Without a thorough grasp of civil law theory, one cannot deeply understand the spirit of legislation or apply it correctly in practice. Law students in higher legal institutions should pay particular attention to cultivating their foundational knowledge in civil law theory. Based on years of teaching experience, it has been found that merely mastering individual systems and principles of civil law without a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the entire discipline is a critical issue in both learning and teaching civil law. In designing the structure of this book, the authors strive to adhere to the principle of systematic organization, paying attention not only to the analysis of each civil legal system but also to its elaboration from a systemic perspective, thereby enabling readers to form a concept of a civil law system with inherent connections. Civil law is also an extremely practical branch of law. Every system, principle, provision, and interpretation is based on various aspects of social life and serves as its practical application. Even the most complex civil law theories and the most difficult-to-understand civil law provisions become easily understandable and graspable once explained with real-life examples. However, reality is always changing. We cannot turn a civil law textbook into a dictionary or manual for solving cases, nor can we provide exhaustive answers to the resolution of every specific dispute. Instead, the textbook should teach students methods for solving practical problems, not just the solutions themselves. The authors of this book pay attention to the study of civil law practice and strive to address methodological issues more extensively in civil law practice. Not only do they dedicate a separate chapter to introducing legal methodology, but they also focus on training and cultivating students' methodological thinking throughout the narrative. Compared to many other legal disciplines, civil law requires a stronger connection between theory and practice, with systematic thinking and methodology serving as important points of integration. Solving these two issues will contribute to the development of civil law in China.
