1. This series of textbooks was compiled in accordance with the "Notice" issued by the Social Sciences Department of the State Education Commission (No. 10, 1992), which mandated ten core professional courses for the Chinese Language and Literature major. These courses include "A Concise History of the Development of Marxist Literary Theory," "Introduction to Literary Theory," "Fundamentals of Linguistics," "Modern Chinese," "Introduction to Ancient Chinese," "History of Chinese Literature," "History of Modern Chinese Literature," "A Brief History of Literature in New China," "Outline of World Literature," and "Chinese Writing Studies." The titles of these ten textbooks are determined by their actual content, and some may not fully align with the names specified in the "Notice."
2. The compilation of this series of textbooks aims to incorporate the strengths of previous relevant textbooks, reflect the latest research achievements in Chinese Language and Literature studies, and highlight the scientific and practical nature of the materials. They can serve as textbooks for Chinese Language and Literature majors in higher education institutions and also as reference materials for self-learners.
3. The overall objective of compiling this series is to elaborate on the fundamental theories, basic knowledge, and essential skills of the major under the guidance of Marxism. The materials are expected to present relatively correct and stable viewpoints, rich and detailed content, and clear and precise descriptions. However, due to the limitations of the compilers, it is inevitable that shortcomings and omissions may exist. We sincerely welcome suggestions from peers and readers.
4. The editorial style of this series of textbooks requires a practical approach, as the writing methods may vary depending on the specific content of each discipline.
5. This series of textbooks was compiled and edited by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Beijing Normal University. An editorial committee was established to coordinate the writing of each volume. The committee includes a director and deputy directors responsible for handling relevant affairs. Each textbook adopts a system of editor-in-chief or joint authors to ensure the consistency of academic perspectives and quality across all volumes.
