Features: The post-reform College English Listening Test (CET-4) has undergone two main changes: First, in terms of question types, the dialogue section has been expanded to include longer dialogues, while the compound dictation and short passage comprehension have been changed from optional (choose one of two) to mandatory. Second, the weight has been significantly increased, rising from 20% to 35%. Although longer dialogues are a new type of question, they essentially test candidates' ability to grasp the main ideas of the conversation and capture key details. In response to these changes, this book aims to reveal the underlying principles of the CET-4 listening test, categorize the key assessment points reasonably, and provide targeted training. This approach allows candidates to directly hit the core of the exam and pass it effortlessly—a concept known as "one-stop success." The features of this book can be summarized in the following aspects:
(1) Test Point Analysis, Clear and Concise
In this book, we provide a detailed analysis of the key assessment points of the CET-4 listening test, helping candidates understand the intent and purpose of the test creators. This analysis differs from general, simpler question type breakdowns by focusing more on the types of abilities being tested. We categorize these test points into five aspects: phonetic assessment, semantic assessment, sentence-level assessment, discourse-level assessment, and comprehensive assessment.
(2) Level Self-Assessment, Accurate Positioning
The standardized level self-assessment questions provided after the test point analysis are designed to help candidates gauge their own proficiency and actual mastery of the knowledge mentioned above. This enables them to identify gaps, weaknesses, and areas needing improvement. To this end, we have carefully designed a level test score statistics table and a comprehensive ability assessment analysis table. The first table categorizes question types and assessed abilities, while the second table lists detailed types of ability assessment and evaluation criteria, followed by practical learning suggestions.
(3) Test Point Training, Targeted Approach
After completing the standardized self-assessment, candidates will have a clear understanding of their weaknesses and can then address them effectively. The test point training in Chapter 4 provides targeted materials for this purpose. The questions in this chapter are representative, with concise explanations and focused content, avoiding the pitfalls of rote memorization. This allows candidates to approach the exam with precision and achieve results more efficiently.
(4) Comprehensive Simulation, Real Exam Experience
After completing the test point training, candidates will gain confidence and be eager to test their skills. The five standardized test sets in Chapter 5 provide a simulated exam experience. These sets strictly adhere to the new syllabus guidelines, selecting materials from VOA, BBC, CRI, and the latest TOEFL exam, processing and formulating questions. Not only do they meet the standards of the CET-4 exam, but they also reflect authenticity and timeliness.
