Features: We often mention the term "art" in our daily lives. What is art? Art, also known as plastic art, is the use of certain material to create flat paintings (such as oil paintings, Chinese paintings, prints, etc.) or three-dimensional artworks (such as sculptures) to express the author's thoughts and emotions, as well as the historical and modern objective phenomena. In the "art" family, there are four major branches: painting, sculpture, architecture, and applied arts. So, what is painting? Painting is the art of creating artistic images with certain shapes, light and shadow, sense of dimension, texture, volume, and spatial perception on flat materials. Within the "painting" family, there are many siblings, including oil paintings, Chinese paintings, prints, watercolors, murals, sketches, and quick sketches, among others. This book will discuss one of the painting genres—sketching. Sketching is one of the painting genres and also the basic form of painting, because it is the art of observing and expressing the shapes, structures, light and shadow, proportions, perspective, colors, sense of dimension, texture, and spatial perception of objective objects. And these are precisely the basic elements of plastic art. Therefore, since the Renaissance, sketching has been called the foundation of all plastic arts by both Chinese and foreign art masters and has been regarded as the basic training subject for learning art.
