On this occasion of the re-publication, sincere gratitude is extended to millions of readers across the country.
The Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiad (referred to as the Subject Olympiad) is one of China's most extensive, widely participated, and influential subject competitions for primary and secondary school students. The Olympiad draws inspiration from and extends the concept of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the Olympiad's strong innovation, flexibility, comprehensiveness, and emphasis on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness—qualities that are precisely at the core of quality education. This is also the need for future development.
Based on years of in-depth research on this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a vast collection of outstanding books in this field, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from all over the country to compile and publish a series of books titled "Golden Medal Olympiad" and "Golden Medal School," covering seven subjects—mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information—with over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are considered the most influential among peers both domestically and internationally, and are the most appealing to primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Golden Medal Olympiad" and "Golden Medal School" series are as follows:
High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means it is written in accordance with the latest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education; exceeding textbooks means it is closely aligned with the competition syllabi of various levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements, thereby fostering interest, developing intelligence, and enhancing abilities.
Accurate: Scientifically precise and well-structured. Each book is designed hierarchically based on subject characteristics, scientifically organized, and follows a progressive principle, offering in-depth yet accessible analysis and comprehensive, detailed problem-solving methods.
Innovative: The questions are novel, unique, and engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both China and abroad, representing the highest level of current Olympiad standards and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as new ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
Refined: Selected examples are challenging yet not obscure, flexible, and achievable. The focus is on generalizing from one example to many, promoting cross-disciplinary understanding; it emphasizes multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches to problems, prioritizing the training of thinking skills rather than rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
Renowned: A gathering of distinguished teachers and a collection of famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited renowned professors from prestigious universities, special-grade teachers from key secondary schools, senior teachers, subject leaders, and famous Olympiad gold medal coaches to contribute to the writing.
