Features: 500 typical difficult sentences, 1793 core vocabulary and phrases analyzed to break down various difficult sentences, solve grammar difficulties, annotate core vocabulary, master key phrases, provide reference translations to check understanding, summarize language features, and learn exam skills. Based on years of reading teaching, especially in postgraduate entrance exam English reading, the author deeply understands the importance of building a solid English language foundation. Therefore, in the author's book "Comprehensive Breakthrough in Postgraduate Entrance Exam English Reading" (China Radio and Television Publishing House), the author proposed four abilities for postgraduate entrance exam English reading: vocabulary recognition ability, difficult sentence comprehension ability, structural grasp ability, and question type analysis ability. Among these four abilities, this book mainly focuses on the first two: vocabulary recognition ability and difficult sentence comprehension ability, especially difficult sentence comprehension ability. These two abilities are closely related to building a solid language foundation and are also highly related to the success or failure of the postgraduate entrance exam English. To help candidates improve these two abilities quickly and effectively, the author provides accurate and detailed analyses of difficult sentences from past postgraduate entrance exam English papers, analyzes sentence structures, provides reference translations, and summarizes core vocabulary, enabling candidates to familiarize themselves with important vocabulary and phrases in postgraduate entrance exam English, consolidate key and difficult grammar points, master translation techniques, and thus comprehensively build a solid foundation for postgraduate entrance exam English. The main content of this book includes:
Part 1: Introduction to the characteristics and strategies of difficult sentences in postgraduate entrance exam English.
Part 2:
1. Past difficult sentences: The book arranges past difficult sentences in the order of Cloze, Reading Comprehension, and English-Chinese Translation. Within each of these three parts, the difficult sentences are arranged in the order they appear. This makes it convenient for candidates to read and refer to the book in the order of past exam papers.
2. Structural analysis: After each difficult sentence, there is an accurate and detailed analysis of the sentence structure. In addition to analyzing sentence structures, grammatical difficulties are also the main content of the explanation.
3. Reference translations: After the structural analysis, there is a reference translation. Some of these reference translations are provided in the postgraduate entrance exam English syllabus. For example, many translations in the English-Chinese Translation section are the answers from the exam at that time. For reference translations, do not read them first. You can try translating them yourself first, then compare them with the reference translations to identify gaps and gradually improve.
4. Core vocabulary: After each difficult sentence, there are annotations of core vocabulary (including phrases). Except for proper nouns, all core vocabulary and phrases should be memorized repeatedly until mastery.
Part 3: This part categorizes 200 typical difficult sentences in postgraduate entrance exam English, which helps candidates understand difficult sentences through analogy. It is recommended that candidates memorize these 200 sentences so that they can handle similar sentences in reading and writing with ease.
Appendix: This part is a word index, which candidates can use to memorize core vocabulary and phrases in a concentrated manner. "A drop of water makes a river, and a piece of fur makes a robe." Only by "eating up" difficult sentences one by one and digesting their core vocabulary one by one can there be a qualitative leap. Therefore, when analyzing past exam difficult sentences, patience is required, and only then can candidates be at ease during the exam. I remember when I was studying reading, I often copied difficult and excellent sentences from articles, analyzed the difficult sentences, and learned from the excellent sentences, especially from sentences with expressions different from those I knew. This patience ultimately gave me confidence, enabling me to use idiomatic English expressions in writing, stay away from incorrect English, and avoid "Chinese-style" English. The famous philosopher and professor at Trinity College, Cambridge, Ludwig Wittgenstein, once said, "What is the purpose of philosophy?" "It is to teach the fly how to get out of the bottle." I hope this book can also help candidates with study methods!
