Features: Principles of Accounting is one of the 15 university-level core courses selected by our university for the 211 Project. This course serves as the foundational subject for accounting majors in economics-focused institutions and a public foundational course for non-accounting majors. Its core content is to elaborate on the fundamental theories, basic knowledge, and basic methods of accounting, serving as an introductory course for financial accounting, cost accounting, management accounting, and auditing. Through the study of this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of basic accounting knowledge and the mechanisms of generating accounting information, master the fundamental operational techniques of accounting, and lay a solid foundation for subsequent courses. During the writing process of the textbook, we based it on the key elements of China's accounting reform, emphasizing alignment with international accounting practices while incorporating the teaching and research achievements of accounting faculty at our university over the years. This addresses the shortcomings of previous similar textbooks and gives the new edition distinct features in both structure and content, primarily reflected in the following aspects:
1. The textbook incorporates the essence of Western accounting theory while reflecting the latest dynamics of China's accounting reform. It summarizes the significant contributions of Chinese accounting theory and practice to the development of international accounting, emphasizing accounting theories that comply with international practices yet carry Chinese characteristics.
2. In the exposition of fundamental accounting theories, it focuses on the intrinsic logical relationships, such as scientifically explaining the principles of double-entry bookkeeping based on the inherent connection between accounting objects and methods, thereby effectively resolving long-standing issues in the accounting field.
3. It compiles the accumulated teaching experience and research achievements in accounting over the years, such as proposing the concept of broad capital application and sources of funds and elaborating on a unique understanding of the accounting equation based on this concept. This gives the textbook a distinctive feature among similar works.
4. It organically integrates the accounting cycle with accounting methods, using the main steps of the accounting cycle to comprehensively explain the fundamental principles of double-entry bookkeeping, emphasizing the combination of theory and practice, as well as popularization and advancement.
5. It carefully selects a rich and diverse set of exercises to help students better understand accounting theories and master accounting methods, enhancing their practical understanding of accounting.
