It is focused and targeted, achieving a revolutionary breakthrough in previous reading materials. The positioning is scientific. This book is not designed just for reading but aims to improve students' comprehensive English proficiency through reading comprehension. It examines students' mastery of basic knowledge such as vocabulary and grammar while cultivating their analytical, summarizing, and logical thinking abilities. The content is rich. This series is scientifically and comprehensively categorized, with diverse section settings, which helps cultivate students' solid knowledge base, broaden their humanities perspective, and enable them to accumulate and excel in exams. Renowned educators lead, with Zhang Guanglu, a nationally famous educator, as the chief editor, and special and senior teachers from the Haidian District Education Bureau of Beijing working together to establish the authoritative status of this series. Reading comprehension is one of the most important question types in the college entrance examination English test, with the largest volume of questions, the highest difficulty, and the highest weight. Looking at the recent years' college entrance examination English papers, compared to previous years, there are the following characteristics: First, for articles of the same length and number, the time required to complete them has been shortened, which means reading speed must be increased. Second, the topics of the articles cover a particularly wide range, such as advertisements, scientific and technological knowledge, and social issues. If students lack cultural literacy, it is really difficult to do well on reading comprehension questions. Therefore, students should read various types and styles of articles, learn to analyze, summarize, deeply understand, and infer the author's emotions. To improve reading comprehension skills, training in two aspects is necessary: understanding and speed. In the past, we often used analytical intensive reading, but now we should adopt understanding-based intensive reading, using extensive reading to systematically and purposefully cultivate understanding skills; under the premise of understanding, continuously increase reading speed, expand vocabulary, broaden knowledge, and improve reading accuracy. This book is compiled with the above goals in mind and has the following three features: First, diverse topics and genres. Each book in this series contains about 120 articles, divided into different units, covering a wide range. Through training, not only can students horizontally improve their understanding of various genres of articles and comprehensively increase knowledge; but if students are relatively weak in reading comprehension for a certain type of article, they can target this type of article for specialized reading and training, thereby vertically improving their reading comprehension ability in a specific knowledge area. Second, scientifically arranged exercises. In addition to reading comprehension questions, "Answer and Analysis" and "Notes" sections have been added, enabling readers to thoroughly study each article. Third, moderate difficulty. According to the high school English curriculum standards, the number of new words selected for the articles in this book is generally controlled between 3% and 5%. Students can guess the meaning of these new words while reading, but it does not basically affect their understanding of the entire article. This series consists of 3 volumes, targeting high school students and college and university students of the same level. It can also be used as a teaching reference book for teachers. Due to the limited level of the author, there are inevitable shortcomings, and we sincerely welcome criticism and corrections from readers and the broader teaching community.
