Features: Art education is not equivalent to the reality of art; the distance between them defines the social function of art education, a point rarely considered in past art education. If art education were to equate itself with the reality of art, its existence would lose meaning. Beyond continuously responding to the realities of art education, what else can it do? This is something contemporary art education should pay special attention to. We should quickly move beyond specific institutional constraints such as admissions, exams, student records, and credit hours, focusing instead on what art education can ultimately contribute to humanity, including China. We should believe that once art education is positioned where it truly belongs, issues like admissions will naturally be resolved.
Eighty years ago, Cai Yuanpei proposed replacing religion with aesthetic education, and his idea was not unreasonable.
