Features: Inorganic non-metallic materials are diverse, with new materials constantly emerging, and they are widely used in the national economy and national defense construction. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the field of inorganic non-metallic materials, it is characterized by vigorous development and the continuous emergence of new growth points. Inorganic non-metallic materials play a foundational and leading role in the advancement of science and technology. The report takes examples of some new materials developed in the latter half of the 20th century, especially in the 1990s, such as artificial crystals, wide-bandgap semiconductor GaN and related materials, advanced functional ceramics, nanomaterials, and structures, to illustrate how a breakthrough in a key inorganic non-metallic material can drive the development of several technological fields, and how the emergence of a class of inorganic non-metallic materials can give rise to a new scientific and technological field. The research report analyzes the current trends in material science and technology development.
