Features: IPSec is one of the popular VPN technologies. There are many books on the technical details of the IPSec protocol and product-level configurations, but none discuss the overall design aspects of IPSec VPN. This book aims to fill this gap, helping readers deploy efficient and secure IPSec VPN solutions in various environments. It provides a detailed discussion of IPSec VPN design, making it a pioneering work in this field. The book is divided into three parts, guiding readers to gain an in-depth understanding of the design and architecture of large-scale IPSec VPN solutions. Part I comprehensively introduces the IPSec architecture, including the IPSec protocol and Cisco IOS IPSec implementation details. Part II discusses IPSec VPN design principles, including star (hub-and-spoke) and full-mesh topologies and fault-tolerant design; it also introduces dynamic configuration models for simplifying IPSec VPN configurations. Part III discusses design issues related to supporting applications such as voice and multicast in IPSec VPNs, exploring how to efficiently integrate IPSec VPN and MPLS VPN. This book is suitable for network engineers involved in the design, deployment, and troubleshooting of IPSec VPNs. One of the many functions provided by network technology is to enable organizations to communicate easily and securely with branch offices, mobile users, remote workers, and business partners. This connectivity is crucial for ensuring a company's competitive productivity. Although there are various technologies for interconnecting enterprise sites, Internet-based Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are the most effective way for remote employees, branches, and mobile personnel to connect to corporate network resources. VPNs enhance productivity, allow remote users to access network resources efficiently and conveniently, provide site-to-site connectivity and security, and save significant costs. This book provides a detailed discussion of the design of the IPSec protocol for secure communication, making it a pioneering work in this field.
