Features: Shen Hongfang's doctoral dissertation, The Commonality and Individuality of Female Narratives—A Comparative Study of the Fictional Creations of Wang Anyi and Fei Jing, is about to be published. I am delighted for her and want to congratulate her on this occasion. I also take the opportunity to say a few words about her dissertation. Through a comparative analysis of the fictional creations of Wang Anyi and Fei Jing and male texts on the same themes, we can see that, unlike male narratives, the spiritual essence of female narratives lies in conveying an understanding of female values through the portrayal of female experiences. The relationship between these two aspects is one of appearance and essence. Without a focus on the authentic and rich representation of female experiences, the understanding of female values becomes rootless and becomes merely a mouthpiece for concepts. Without the support of an understanding of female values, the mere representation of female experiences becomes sourceless, lacking a certain charm and tending toward mediocrity and triviality, reducing women's lives to a purposeless existence. Only by organically combining female experiences with an understanding of female values can we continuously shape authentic and rich female images, allowing women's portrayal in literature to increasingly deviate from the predetermined track of being objectified andized, gradually approaching human existence. Wang Anyi and Fei Jing's creation of a large number of outstanding works over the past two decades is the result of their continuous exploration of female subjectivity and the portrayal of rich female experiences. This may be one of the most profound insights we gain from the fictional creations of Wang Anyi and Fei Jing.
