Draft History of Song Dynasty Ci Poetry Research

Publish Date: 2006-08-01
Features: This academic history of literature focuses on "comprehensiveness" and "breadth." It is composed of five chronological volumes: Tang and Five Dynasties, Northern Song, Southern Song, Jin and Yuan, and Ming and Qing. It is a comprehensive history of Ci-style literature research. The editors and authors' initial intention was to carefully review the research status of each historical period, identify its research characteristics and regular phenomena, and thereby outline a "historical" narrative. They aimed to present as authentically and clearly as possible the entire process of Ci-style literature research over a thousand years, laying a foundation for the future writing of a more comprehensive academic history of Ci studies. By broadly reviewing the entire manuscript and selectively reading the "introductions" and key chapters of each volume, it is found that the editors and authors have largely achieved their academic goals.
This book also provides many references for contemporary scholars by summarizing and describing the academic concepts, research methods, approaches, and discourse expressions of Ci scholars throughout history. Additionally, since it has conducted a basic review of the research status of each historical period, it can save contemporary scholars considerable effort in searching and help avoid some repetition in topic selection and research.
