Features: Hummel, Johann Nepomuk (1778–1837), became an outstanding pianist in Vienna during his youth. Hummel studied under Mozart, Albrechtsberger, Salieri, and Haydn, and quickly gained recognition as a composer. He served as the court music director for Prince Esterházy from 1804 to 1811 and taught music in Vienna during his five years there. In 1816, he became the court music director in Stuttgart and later in Weimar in 1819. Hummel gave extensive concert tours across many European countries (particularly in England and Russia), earning him great honor. The original manuscript is preserved in the British Library in London and is considered the origin of various versions available today. It is very important to understand and evaluate these numerous arrangements, especially in the solo parts – it is believed that Widder edited them. It is unknown whether these changes (most of which were made for the sake of instrumental performance) were approved by the composer himself, such as the cuts in the second movement. Therefore, these arrangements are not adopted in this edition.
