Features: The past five years have been the period with the greatest improvement in public environmental awareness in China, the period with the closest integration of environmental protection and economic development, and the period with the fastest development of environmental protection. It is precisely because the Party committees and governments at all levels have implemented environmental protection as a fundamental national policy in all development processes, accelerated industrial restructuring, increased environmental protection investment, and strengthened environmental law enforcement that the trend of deteriorating environmental pollution has been basically controlled, and the environmental quality in some regions and cities has begun to improve. It is precisely because the industrial enterprises have continuously innovated and adopted clean production technologies, phased out backward equipment and processes, and strengthened pollution control that the total discharge of pollutants nationwide has been controlled and reduced. The increasingly extensive and in-depth environmental publicity and public opinion supervision by the media have not only exposed environmentally harmful behaviors but also promoted the resolution of environmental issues, while also raising public environmental awareness. At the same time, while the masses are increasingly using legal means to safeguard their environmental rights and interests, more and more people are participating in activities to protect and improve the environment, laying an extremely important social foundation for the in-depth development of environmental protection. However, it must be admitted that the current public environmental awareness in China is not yet high. The phenomenon of pursuing temporary, one-sided development without considering the environment's carrying capacity still exists; and the practice of polluting a river or destroying the land for short-term corporate interests remains relatively common in some areas. It is believed that the publication of this series of books will play a positive role in enhancing public environmental scientific knowledge and improving the environmental awareness of the entire population.
