Features: The tourism industry in China is experiencing an unprecedented period of vigorous development. In Asia, the rapid rise of China's tourism industry has firmly established its status as a major tourism power, a position undeniable. Globally, China's remarkable achievements in both inbound and outbound tourism have attracted worldwide attention, and the Chinese tourism industry has long been recognized as one of the world's leading tourism powers. In response to the favorable conditions of China's rapidly developing tourism industry, tourism professionals in our country will inevitably face the challenge of further improving their professional skills, especially the fundamental language skills in foreign languages, in order to better adapt to the needs of the fast-developing Chinese tourism industry. It is widely agreed that language learning follows specific patterns. Among the five core elements of language learning—listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation—listening holds the highest priority. Therefore, the importance of listening in language learning is self-evident. However, improving listening skills cannot be achieved overnight. For this reason, I have compiled the Practical Tourism English series. This book is one of the series, aimed at further enhancing the English listening skills of tourism professionals, students majoring in tourism, and English enthusiasts.
Practical Tourism English Listening consists of 20 units. Each unit is divided into three parts, including:
1. Discrimination in listening to pronunciation, intonation, numbers, time, dates, weather, phone numbers, addresses, and prices.
2. Training in filling in blanks, dictation, and other exercises based on the listened sentences and passages.
3. Dialogue listening comprehension exercises.
4. Listening to short passages and answering multiple-choice questions or making correct true/false judgments based on the content.
5. The second short passage in each unit highlights tourism-related professional knowledge. After listening, learners further practice answering questions, making true/false choices, or multiple-choice exercises. This way, learners not only improve their listening skills but also acquire essential basic knowledge in tourism.
Although this textbook is a listening skills book, its content covers a wide range of knowledge, including famous tourist attractions in China and abroad, scenic mountains and rivers, cultural relics and historical sites, folk customs, and culturally significant cities. Through listening exercises that progress from simple to advanced, this book not only helps tourism professionals, tourism students, and English learners improve their listening skills but also broadens their knowledge and enhances their communication abilities.
