Features: Among the top ten famous flowers in China, it is a traditional and beloved flower with a long history of cultivation, including woody, herbaceous, and aquatic plants. It was selected through a grand public vote initiated by the Shanghai gardening and cultural communities in 1986, receiving enthusiastic participation from flower enthusiasts and overseas Chinese (from the U.S., Canada, Germany, Botswana, Japan, and other countries) across 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. A total of 149,018 votes were cast, and the selection process lasted three months, involving deliberations and evaluations by a panel of 100 authoritative experts and scholars. This established the standard for famous flowers in Chinese literary and artistic creation and unified the final determination. Among them, plum blossoms and peonies were advocated by Chen Junyu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Beijing Forestry University, as candidates for China's national flower. The 11th species, the Bauhinia, is the regional flower of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
