Sea of Books

Author: Chen Zishan
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-05-01
Features: Sea of Books is the author's second collection of book essays, written between 1997 and 1999. Compared to the author's The Needle Diver, Sea of Books contains more diverse content, including records of book searches, notes on reading, discussions on book editing, memories of book people, and papers submitted to academic seminars in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It may seem chaotic, but hopefully not disorganized, as the themes remain only two: modern Chinese literature research and Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau literature research. The title has no profound meaning. Having lived in Shanghai for many years, the author has witnessed the changes in Shanghai's new and old book markets and the shifts in academic trends in the humanities. Therefore, this collection expresses some reflections, shares a few truths, and discusses certain perspectives. The voice of scholars may be insignificant, but it must still be spoken seriously.
