Features: This new edition of A New History of French Literature has achieved success by addressing the question of how to compile a history of foreign literature. Specifically, in China, how should A History of French Literature be written? Currently, readers still need a comprehensive History of French Literature, meaning a thorough analysis of writers and works from beginning to end, discussions on the development of literature in each period, and evaluations of French literature from our own perspectives. However, China still lacks such a detailed History of French Literature. The literary history in readers' hands serves to fill this gap. First, it covers from the Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century, and second, it is compiled according to our line of thought and viewpoints. This is not a translation or compilation of a History of French Literature written by French authors. It is a History of French Literature written for Chinese readers, tailored to their needs. It requires the author to not only master extensive materials and conduct in-depth research on important writers and works but also to be familiar with various editions of History of French Literature, read a large number of works, possess a wealth of critical writings by French critics, understand various research methods and the perspectives of different critical schools, and be adept at absorbing effective analytical methods. This truly resembles what said—it requires a lifetime of dedication. Since graduating from university and graduate school, I have never given up on researching French literature. This History of French Literature can be said to be a summary of my lifelong achievements.
