Later, Miss Taylor married Mr. Weston and left Emma's home. Emma became friends with Harriet, a homeless girl from the local boarding school, and considered herself Harriet's protector, determined to find her a suitable husband. The young farmer Robert Martin was infatuated with Harriet, but Harriet, influenced by Emma's class and status, rejected him.
