The discontinuity of strata and its research

Publish Date: 1994-10-01
Features: This book is guided by modern sedimentology theory and employs methods such as the newly proposed thickness distribution analysis and the calculation of stratigraphic section completeness, which were first attempted in this book. Through nearly four years of quantitative and semi-quantitative research on the discontinuity of modern, recent, sub-recent, and late Quaternary unconsolidated sedimentary strata in the Yangtze River Estuary area, as well as the Silurian Wenchang Formation strata of Jiangxi and Anhui, the authors have drawn conclusions that differ significantly from previous studies. Essentially, any stratigraphic or sedimentary layer accumulation at any spatial or temporal scale is discontinuous. Normal continuous deposition only occurs within certain spatial and temporal scales. Events are interconnected, higher-order events form the foundation or background for lower-order events, and lower-order event strata are contained within higher-order event strata, interrupting them. This book is suitable for reference and reading by geologists in teaching and research units.
