Woodblock Printed Edition (Illustrated Collector's Edition)

Author: Huang Zhenwei
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-12-01
Features: This series of books is written in various specialized volumes, including Song editions, Yuan editions, Ming editions, Qing engraved editions, ancient books of ethnic minorities, shop-engraved editions, family-engraved editions, movable-type editions, illustrated editions, and new literature editions, etc., striving to reflect the new style and level of our country's edition research. Of course, some people worry that this format might lack uniformity and lead to repetition. The editors believe there is no need to worry. The format is largely unified, but it is neither possible nor necessary to be as neatly organized as a textbook. The editors recall when they first entered the field of ancient book editions, the books they read included Zhang Zhidong's Catalogue of Books Answered, Ye Dehui's Chu Lin Qinghua, Sun Yuxiu's A Study of the Origin of Chinese Woodblock Printing, Ye Changchi's Poems Recording Book Collecting, as well as bibliographies and prefaces from various authors. It was truly a wide variety of books—why be confined to a single format or framework? But they did manage to learn the craft of edition studies. With ten or so volumes in this series, some repetition in the content is not a problem. For example, some say Mao Jin's Jigu Ge should be classified as family-engraved, while others argue it should be categorized as shop-engraved. Each author writes from their own perspective, with different insights. A bit of diversity—like a hundred flowers blooming—wouldn't that be more interesting than a single flower?
