Features: Turgenev always grasps the "laws of movement" in life, discerning the typical characteristics of the era through the "transformations of chance." It can be said that observing the phenomena of the current reality, delving deep into its essence, swiftly capturing the pulse of the times, and artfully reflecting it—these are the main reasons why Turgenev became a great writer. Night Before Christmas and Fathers and Sons are the best examples. Turgenev (1818-1883) was a renowned Russian writer of the 19th century, and Night Before Christmas and Fathers and Sons are two of the most important works in his life. Night Before Christmas is set against the backdrop of the "night before" the abolition of serfdom in Russia, narrating the poignant love story between Elena, a noblewoman who yearns for freedom and embodies the awakening of social consciousness, and the Bulgarian patriot Inzarov, who has lofty ideals. After the male protagonist passes away, she remains steadfastly devoted to his lifelong cause and bravely becomes a volunteer nurse in Bulgaria. Fathers and Sons is one of the writer's finest novels, depicting the love story between the noblewoman Ozino and the protagonist Bazarov. The female protagonist, feeling the emptiness and superficiality of high society, finds common ground with him, but she is ultimately a "pleasure-seeking lady" and cannot truly love a common revolutionary. In the end, Bazarov's love is thwarted, and he dies in an accidental incident.
