Features: This book first introduces the needs of network planning and optimization, and provides an overview of the UMTS structure. It discusses the link performance indicators in WCDMA specifications used for wireless network customization and planning. Then, it covers wireless network planning, wireless resource management, joint planning of WCDMA and GSM, cell configuration and deployment strategies, and analyzes enhancement technologies for coverage and capacity. Subsequently, it discusses the optimization process of high-level wireless networks and describes UMTS's service quality (QoS) management rules regarding models, requirements, and service characteristics, as well as the concepts and models of automatic adjustment and advanced monitoring of wireless access. The content of the book is comprehensive and systematic, with concise and clear explanations, balancing theory and practice. The accompanying CD-ROM includes a statistical wireless network simulator implemented in MATLAB, along with detailed descriptions of the algorithms used. This book can serve as a technical guide for R&D personnel, network operators, network planners, and operators in third-generation mobile communication systems and equipment, as well as a reference for undergraduate and graduate students in wireless communication.
