1. The Truth and Falsehood Existing on Both Sides of a Sheet of Paper
Sunlight said: Standing at the gate of the prison, I felt a sense of disorientation. So much sunlight, cast over such a vast area, that no one would care about its existence. Sunlight, the thing I yearned for inside, was discarded because of its abundance elsewhere.
I remember being extremely bored inside, and I borrowed a book from a fellow inmate who studied philosophy. I don’t remember the title of the book, but I do remember the author—it was something like Heidegger. The book had a section dedicated to analyzing what makes things appear as they do. The question was strange, and at the time, I thought the author might be as bored as I was. What makes things appear as they do? It was nonsense. Full of oneself, if he asked questions like that, wouldn’t the world be in chaos? If he analyzed what makes things appear as they do, I could study what makes a table a table, or a chair, or a bed.
