Brahms: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77

Author: (German) Brahms
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-04-01
Features: The Violin Concerto was composed between 1877 and 1878. It is the only violin concerto in Brahms' entire oeuvre. However, this violin concerto is not only one of Brahms' greatest works but also, together with Beethoven's (in D major) and Mendelssohn's (in E minor), as well as Tchaikovsky's (in D major), is considered one of the Four Great Violin Concertos. The piece carries a strong pastoral flavor and a touch of Hungarian folk music. The harmonious blend of tranquility and depth is a distinctive characteristic of Brahms. In this work, Brahms successfully combines the passion of Romanticism with the rigor of Classicism, and introduces numerous bold innovations in form.
