Features: Chinese calligraphy art has a long history and a unique style, with generations of masters and a rich treasure trove of works. To meet the urgent needs of, especially middle school students, for practicing traditional calligraphy, as well as the needs of calligraphy enthusiasts for appreciation and learning, we have selected works in various scripts and from famous calligraphers from throughout the ages and compiled this series of "Selected Calligraphic Works from Ancient Inscriptions and Stele."
The Yuan Lüe Stele, in full "Epitaph of Yuan Jun, Grand Secretary of the State, Grand General of the Left, Minister of the Imperial Secretariat, Governor of Xuzhou, and Grand Protector of Dongping Wang of the Wei Dynasty," is written in regular script with thirty-four lines, each containing thirty-three characters. It was carved in the first year of the Jianyi era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (528 AD) and unearthed in Anjiagou, Luoyang, Henan, in 1919. This stele was once owned by Xu Shi of Gushi and Tao Shi of Wujin, and is now housed in the Liaoning Provincial Museum. The lower part of the stele is slightly fragmented.
The complete rubbing and the mounted sections of this stele, both based on the original, are preserved by Mr. Yang Lu'an and are part of the fine blue-rubbed copies of Tao Xiang. The rubbing is exquisitely executed with clear character lines, making it an excellent reference for calligraphy enthusiasts.
