Features: With the progress of society and the development of life sciences, people's lives have been changing rapidly, and the health threats they face have become increasingly complex. Preventing diseases and promoting health have become prerequisites for social development. Preventive medicine, as an important component of modern medicine, has encountered unprecedented opportunities and challenges and has made significant advancements. The 2003 SARS outbreak and its prevention and control efforts made us more clearly recognize the crucial role of preventive medicine. With the transformation of the medical model, medical education is facing new forms and tasks. Preventive medicine is a vital discipline that implements the health work principle of "prevention first" and is closely related to human health and quality of life. Strengthening and improving preventive medicine education for students at various levels and disciplines of medicine, enhancing the awareness of prevention-first, and learning to apply preventive medicine knowledge in practical work have become urgent tasks in medical education. The new hospital model should be an integrated comprehensive system of medical treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation. Therefore, preventive medicine is a compulsory course for medical professionals. To adapt to the development of health services in the 21st century and the reform and development of teaching material construction for secondary vocational education leading to specialized education (3+2), this textbook is compiled in accordance with the writing principles proposed by the National Health Commission's Medical Textbook Evaluation Committee and the Textbook Office, with a focus on cultivating practical medical talents. During the writing process, this textbook emphasizes fundamental concepts, theories, and skills, reflecting its ideological, scientific, inspirational, advanced, and applicable nature. It considers the ratio of theoretical teaching to experimental teaching while also focusing on the disciplinary system of preventive medicine, striving to form the characteristics and individuality of this course for secondary vocational education leading to specialized education. The content of this textbook is closely aligned with the teaching syllabus, fundamentally reflecting the transformation of the medical model and consistently incorporating the basic concept of "population-environment-health" and the principle of "prevention first." It aims to promote the comprehensive development of students and strive to fully reflect the knowledge, concepts, and advancements of preventive medicine. We hope this textbook can play a role in cultivating students' independent analytical and problem-solving abilities and guiding them to establish an innovative spirit of pioneering and continuous improvement.
