Features: This textbook is one of the national-level planning textbooks for general higher education in the "Tenth Five-Year Plan." It was compiled under the commission of the Ministry of Education, based on the "Suggestions for Revising the New Century Edition Textbooks for Various Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Majors" by the National Expert Advisory Committee on TCM Textbook Construction, the teaching syllabus for "Herbal Processing," and the guiding spirit of the chief editors' meetings for 18 main courses. The "Herbal Processing" Writing Committee, organized by the National TCM Administration and the National Association of Higher Education for TCM, revised and expanded the previous editions of the textbook. It is intended for use in TCM and related disciplines at higher education institutions across the country. The General Part discusses the basic theories, knowledge, and skills of herbal processing. The Specific Part adopts a classification method that combines processing techniques with auxiliaries, listing the historical evolution, processing methods, final product characteristics, quality requirements, processing functions, and research on over 240 representative herbs. Some drugs have been deleted from the original textbook. A "Quality Requirements" section has been added for some drugs, and the "Processing Functions" section now includes the properties, flavors, meridian tropism, and therapeutic indications of the drugs. The "Research on Processing" section has been enriched with new achievements and progress in the field of processing research over the past few decades. The experimental part has been adjusted to facilitate the rational arrangement of experimental courses. Most of the reference book titles in the book are abbreviated, with the full titles available at the end under "References Cited in This Book."
